I tried to install VMware on my laptop with fedora 25, 26 but after the installation i couldn't make it run. It just not started, without errors.
In this post I will show you how to install VMware Workstation on Fedora easy.
The source of my problem was the Wayland, which is the replacement for the old X but some applications still have compatibility issues.
So the first step is to switch to X11, you can do it from login screen, click on gear icon and choose GNOME on Xorg.
If you haven't downloaded the VMware Workstation you can do it from here
You need to install some library for compile just open your terminal and type
sudo dnf install kernel-headers kernel-devel gcc glibc-headers
You need to change your current directory to dir where the downloaded file is
To run the installer you need to give execution permission. You can do it in terminal
chmod +x Vmware-Workstation*12*.bundle
or you can do it using gui, right click on file → Properties → Permissions and check the Execute checkbox
Now you can run the installer, just type on terminal this
Follow the instructions of installer.
If you run the VMware and get error about gcc you need to compile vmnet and vmmon.
To do this you need to untar the files compile and copy compiled to modules, just use the commands
cd /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source sudo tar -xvf vmnet.tar sudo tar -xvf vmmon.tar sudo make -C vmmon-only sudo make -C vmnet-only sudo mkdir /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/misc sudo cp vmmon-only/vmmon.ko /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/misc sudo cp vmnet-only/vmnet.ko /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/misc sudo depmod -a
Now you can enjoy the magic of virtualization
If nothing worked and you can't make it run you need to find an Unicorn, when you found it all you have to do is to say NO to drugs! :)
